John Forrester Clack completed his Master of Arts at the Royal College of Art, London in 1986 and he has been practicing and exhibiting as a full time artist for the past 30 years. For the past ten years he has lived and worked in the bush out of Canberra.
John's work is a combination of oil paintings and charcoals, where the medium itself takes a leading role rather than acting simply as an expressive tool. Thick, voluptuous paint is energetically manipulated to create imagery that emerges from the surface. Not only do Clack’s works blur the boundary between painting and sculpture, his poignant portraits appear free from a literal interpretation of human features yet the works appears charged with an overwhelming and dynamic sense of emotion.
