Kate Walker (MFA University of Arizona, 2005) is a New Zealand artist relocated to Idaho in 2010. She has just been appointed Assistant Professor of Art in the Art Department at Boise State University, Idaho. Her work moves between painting, drawing and video work, where narrative devices are used to explore contemporary social issues. Recent bodies of work focus on colonial histories, issues of gender and sexual identity.
Her work continues to be influenced by living in the United States as a New Zealand artist. Using discontinuities of time and place created by travelling between these two countries, her practice is based on looking through the lens of one culture at another in a constant switching of a cross-cultural gaze.
Walker has shown her work in New Zealand, the United States, Vancouver, Rome, Cyprus, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and recent exhibitions include SOMArts, San Francisco and Aigantighe Art Gallery Timaru NZ.
