Sukjin Choi was born in Seoul, Korea, and currently is an Associate Professor at James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She earned her BFA and first MFA from Ewha Womans University in Korea, and another MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, in Michigan. She has received numerous awards including a Visual Arts Fellowships from the Virginia Museum, International Artists Grants from the Lighton Foundation, Medalta Residency in Canada, and European Ceramic Work Centre Residency in the Netherlands. Her work has been exhibited and collected worldwide. She is also a prolific commentator, publishing over 70 articles in Monthly Ceramic Art (Korea).
