Michelangelo and Mickey Mouse: Drawing Now
Deanna Petherbridge, author of The Primacy of Drawing: Histories and Theories of Practice, Yale University Press, 2010 will talk about the changing role of drawing in relation to contemporary art, specifically multi-practices where artists move freely between time-based work, installation, digital imagery, text and sound pieces as well as object making. She will also examine more traditional aspects of observational drawing and issues of learning from exemplars. Robocop has replaced Rembrandt and Michelangelo has been supplanted by Mickey Mouse for many young artists in a populist global world.
