Rei Chikaoka has worked with glass in Tokyo, Japan for over 20 years, including masters and doctoral work at Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School. He was a 2010 finalist in Bullseye Glass Company’s biennial Emerge competition and received the Emerge Kiln caster Award in 2014. Chikaoka has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Japan and the US.
Chikaoka writes:
I am interested in “motion”. I would like to keep the moment in which “a feeling” or “a thing” “is burst” or “starts to move” as a form. The power at the moment that something “starts to move” creates everything and changes it. I think that glass is the best suitable material to express that power.
