Visiting artist Kay S Lawrence
From within a feminist paradigm, these works investigate the problematic relationship between nature and culture using the body’s liminal positioning between these facets. In all of the works, the materiality and power of bodily experience, and its potentially transformative effect on contemporary issues is considered. Awareness of the body as experienced by environmental and architectural spaces; old, modern and contemporary, informs the production of works acknowledging the body’s centrality to our existence and experience. These works reference the notion of an anthropomorphic-centric society and its apparent inability to comprehend the exponential, detrimental effects of its actions.
Kay S Lawrence is a visiting artist in the School of Art's Textiles workshop
