Angus Trumble, Director National Portrait Gallery and Mr Tubagus ‘Andre’ Sukmana, Director National Gallery of Indonesia are pleased to invite you to a seminar associated with the exhibition Masters of Modern Indonesian Portraiture, 20 September – 15 October 2014.
A major National Gallery of Indonesia initiative, Masters of Modern Indonesian Portraiture offers significant insight into the rich portrait practice in Indonesian art. It is the first time an exhibition from the National Gallery of Indonesia collection has been presented in Australia and a rare occasion to view in Australia paintings and drawings by many Indonesian modern masters. The exhibition also presents a selection of work by young and mid-career contemporary artists who have not exhibited previously in Australia.
The Seminar includes presentations by Mr Asikin Hasan, Curator at the National Gallery of Indonesia and one of the participating artists, Mr Willy Himawan, along with papers by leading Australian academics in this field of enquiry.

The Seminar is presented by the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Indonesian in collaboration with the Australian National University’s Australian Consortium on Asian Art.
