We are pleased to announce that German artist and designer Philipp Weber has been selected as the 2015 International Interdisciplinary Artist-in-Residence hosted by the Craft and Design area at ANU School of Art. Weber's work utilises craft media as a means of inquiry into conceptual themes. Weber's practice cuts across many traditional craft disciplines in a way that reinterprets, questions, and celebrates the disciplines.
Philipp Weber graduated in 2012 from the Design Academy Eindhoven. His project A Strange Symphony, an allegory between glass and music, won him the 'New Talent Award' of the Berlin Design Festival DMY and the Bavarian State Prize. 2015 A Strange Symphony became part of the permanent collection of the Shanghai Museum of Glass.
Weber is in search of emotional qualities within production processes. Questions like ‘Where lies the significance of craftsmanship today?’ guide his approach.
