PUBLIC LAUNCH: Bundian Way Arts Exchange

John Blay at Two Fold Bay, Eden

The ANU School of Art & Design is pleased to announce the launch of the Bundian Way Arts Exchange, a 2-year cultural exchange project supported by ArtsACT.

The Bundian Way Arts Exchange is comprised of learning events in Canberra and a structured creative field program which includes visits to areas along the Bundian Way. It is a creative participatory project focussing on building positive reciprocal relationships with local regional Indigenous and non-indigenous communities. Linking Mount Kosciusko and Twofold Bay on the Far South Coast of NSW, the Bundian Way is a shared historic cultural pathway used by Aboriginal peoples for tens of thousands of years.

The launch, commencing 6.00pm on Monday 18 March will include a presentation by John Blay, author of On Track: Searching Out the Bundian Way, joined by distinguished guests associated with the Bundian Survey.

The evening will continue with a presentation by Dr Amanda Stuart (SOA&D) and Ms Amelia Zaraftis (SOA&D) who were awarded the Australian National University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Reconciliation for their work leading the Balawan Elective in 2018. Dr Stuart and Ms Zaraftis will outline the project plans for future ACT-based learning events and discuss the Field Program, including the Expression of Interest process and the 2019 Field Trip dates.

Following the launch, the ANU School of Art & Design will be calling for Expressions of Interest for participation in the Bundian Way Arts Exchange Field Program.

The Field Program includes:

  • 6 information and discussion evenings at the School of Art & Design
  • A 3 day field trip to South East NSW in late June
  • A 3 day field trip to South East NSW in early September

The approximate cost to participants is $250. Participants will also contribute to travel and cover their own food costs.
