Theremin Project

In 1971 and 1972 Australian media artist Stanislaus Ostoja-Kotkowski undertook an ANU Creative Arts Fellowship which resulted in the design and production of several theremins that could be attached to a series of abstract 'paintings' on steel 'canvasses'. These acted as aerials for the theremins, thus making the pictures interactive. The pictures were inadvertently thrown out and the theremins disposed of, however one was recently recovered. Dr Stephen Jones, eminent Australian media artist and historian, has been visiting the ANU School of Art to work on rebuilding the theremin and will discuss the development of the project.
