Sustainable Creative Careers: Picture Perfect (Part 1)

Applying for a competition, grant or exhibition? Presenting great images of your work is critical when you’re applying for visual art opportunities, yet it’s often the thing that’s left to last. This session will provide an overview of why your images are so important, and some practical tips of what kind of images work in successful applications.

 

Presenter:

Tony Curran (b.1984) is a Canberra-based artist working between painting, drawing and creative code. His works explore the impact of smart devices on engagement with contemporary art and visual culture, including audience reception, collaboration and authorship in a software dependent world. His work has been shown internationally and across Australia. Curran has been shortlisted for numerous art prizes across Australia and his work has been supported by grants awarded from the Australian Council for the Arts, the British Council of Australia, Arts ACT, Regional Arts NSW. His works are included in the collections of Artbank, The Australian National University, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and the Museum of the Riverina.

Ready to apply for that grant, exhibition or prize? You’ve written a fantastic application, your CV is up to date and you think your images are sort of okay….. ? Come along to this session for individual feedback from experienced artists and arts workers about how well your images are working and how you might improve your submission.

The art world can be a confusing and difficult space to navigate, especially when keeping pace with changing trends, expectations and technology. The ANU School of Art & Design brings together artists and arts workers to help answer questions and give you some ideas about what skills are needed to gain a place in the contemporary art world.

These events are suitable for recent graduates, emerging artists, mid-career artists and for anyone looking to re-boot their career!
