Triangulation is an ongoing collaboration in which Susan Buret and Julie Brooke reference and respond to each other’s practice.  In their solo painting practices Brooke and Buret work with grids, patterning and repetition to create complex forms using simple geometries.  Over the past four years the collaboration has developed from exhibiting separate works with a common theme to creating composite paintings.

Spin-Off, their sixth collaborative exhibition, presents a series of geometric works comprised of concentric circular paintings on board.  With the radial axis as the theme, the collaboration becomes a feedback loop similar to musical extemporisation, where each artist responds intuitively to previous iterations.  The result is a series of optically active composite forms that compare and contrast each artist’s different approach to exploring colour, pattern and spatial illusion.
