ANU School of Art students Jeremy Brown and Clare Solomon, both from the Furniture Workshop, have won prizes at Create from a Crate - a national competition to make an object from discarded timber pallets.
The environmentally focused competition is run by Waste Converters and the Victorian Woodworking Association, and aims to highlight ways designers and makers can re-use the vast amounts of timber that is currently going into landfill.
Jeremy Brown was awarded first prize ($3,000) for his light framed chair made with hand-cut joinery, and Clare Solomon received third prize ($1,000) for the satchel bag she made with traditional woodworking techniques.
A group of Furniture students attended the exhibition with the help of a ANU Student Extracurricular Enrichment Fund Grant they were awarded in 2015.
