Dr Charlotte Galloway from the Centre for Art History and Art Theory is presenting in The spread of Buddhist art lecture series at the Art Gallery of NSW.

From India to Myanmar

This talk will consider the transfer of ideas related to Buddhism from India to Myanmar (Burma), and show how Buddhism was first represented at the Pyu sites. It will include mention of current documentation projects of the architectural, artistic and archaeological legacies of Pyu sites such as Sri Kestra, one of largest examples of first millennium settlement in Southeast Asia.

Dr Charlotte Galloway is lecturer in Asian art history and curatorial studies at the Australian National University, Canberra. She continues to research the Buddhist art of Myanmar, the topic of her doctorate studies, and spent her last sabbatical at Myanmar’s Pyu city site of Sri Ksetra, cataloguing the site museum collection.
