Following on from his publication, Fantasy Modern: Loudon Sainthill’s Theatre of Art and Life, Dr Andrew Montana from the Centre for Art History and Art Theory at the Australian National University recently delivered the lecture titled:  Ballet Fantasia: Loudon Sainthill’s decorative art.

This lecture was a part of The Art of Dance study series is at The Johnston Collection house museum called Fairhall, the neoclassical revival  residence (1860-1874) in East Melbourne,  previously owned by  former antique collector and dealer  William Robert Johnston.

Presented by well-known art, cultural and dance historians, The Art of Dance series explores the social and cultural worlds where, art, dance and design meet. The lectures are presented in conjunction with the re-arrangement of Fairhall around the theme of ballet and dance by the Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet David McAllister AM.

Andrew’s book also forms a part of an exhibition at the Performing Arts Centre, Melbourne, over the next few months called Journeys of Discovery.  Through examples, this exhibition focuses on the way scholars, researchers and academics use the archive and collections of this Centre towards their original creative works.
