Centenary Tapestry Design Launched at School of Art

Wednesday 10 October 2012

The design for the Canberra Centenary Community Tapestry was launched by the Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Shane Rattenbury, on Friday 29 September in the Textiles Workshop of the ANU School of Art.

The design for the tapestry has been developed by Canberra artist Annie Trevillian who taught in the ANU Textiles Workshop from 1992 – 2011 and who has long been associated with Megalo Print Studio and Gallery. When complete, the Canberra Centenary Community Tapestry will be an original artwork which will be woven with contributions from the Canberra community and which will celebrate Canberra’s past, present and future. The finished work will become part of the permanent art collection of the ACT Legislative Assembly. The tapestry is being woven in the Textiles Workshop of the ANU School of Art. The project has attracted significant funding from both the Centenary of Canberra and the ACT Legislative Assembly and will profile the teaching and research excellence of the School of Art Textiles Workshop through numerous public outreach activities throughout 2012 and 2013.
