The Italian city of Padova holds a considerable reputation since the renaissance for the work of its goldsmiths. This annual exhibition ‘Pensieri Preciosa’ organised by the Comune di Cuturali Padova, was instigated with the aim of retaining and furthering this reputation through dialogue with contemporary work of international artists. This is the 9th in a series of major exhibitions, which cover cities with a world-renowned reputation for art jewellery. This year Melbourne was selected. As Simon Cottrell trained and practiced in Melbourne, he was one of eight artists selected to each exhibit 16 pieces spanning their career.
The exhibition is held in a church built in 1525, all walls are completely covered in frescos by Domenico Campagnola about the Oratorio of Saint Roccco, completed in 1545.
