Two papers accepted for two National Conferences
Greg Daly has had two papers accepted for two National Conferences. The first is Australian Ceramic Triennial conference in September this year and NCECA ( National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) conference being held in Houston, USA. The juried paper’s relate to Greg’s on going research into Lustre glazes and their development. He received a seed research grant last year.
Greg Daly has had a paper accepted at next year’s NCECA ( National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) conference being held in Houston, USA. This annual conference draws over 5000 attendees from over the USA and internationally.
Greg’s paper is on his research of the development of lustre surfaces on a ceramic glaze, which he received a seed research grant for in 2011. Researching the surface changes of a lustre glaze at different temperatures, and lengths of reduction. How these variables alter the surface colour and finish. It is this that the Embracing Innovation application is for. A series of test tiles showing the results of these firing and how one can observe the change by viewing the surface directly through a window in the kiln which is recorded documenting the change as it occurs.
Light and lustre have a synergy that creates colour and movement. The angle of the light striking the lustre surface will change colour and the intensity as you move around the work. The full natural light spectrum will be different to an artificial light and the brightness of light will affect the colour and tone of the lustre glazed surface.
