Monday 20 August 2012

ANU School of Art alumnus Henry Wilson has won a QANTAS Spirit of Youth Award for craft and object design.

As part of the award, Wilson will receive $5,000, a mentorship with world-class designer Marc Newson and an exhibition space at the London Design Fair in September.

Henry’s work stood out among 2,500 submissions by more than 170 designers and, said judge Marc Newson.

“Henry’s work has a simple and fine aesthetic. Clean lines with a strong emphasis on the material and on the process involved in the making. Each piece evokes a unique and strong vision of the designer behind it. His customisation of existing objects shows both a thoughtful and creative approach.”

Henry’s design philosophy is that objects should be designed both for longevity and practicality. His approach has earned him numerous awards, including the 2011 Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award.

Henry’s work is currently on display at the ANU School of Art’s DE SIGN ED 2 exhibition. For more information visit /event/designed-2
