Ruth Waller and Anna Madeleine head to London

Insight Radicals is an exhibition featuring Head of Painting Ruth Waller and School of Art alumna Anna Madeleine.

Diverse in outcomes, Insight Radicals presents a unique art and science exhibition that will travel to London in August.

The exhibition captures a creative journey into free radical chemistry, first embarked on by a group of curiosity-led Australian artists and scientists in 2012.

The group of artists are Tony Lloyd, Steve Lopes, Anna Madeleine, Natalie O’Connor, Peter Sharp and Ruth Waller and they express their fascination with free radicals, inspired by a yearlong residency at the Bio 21 Laboratories of Melbourne University.

For Ruth Waller, it was free radical patterns that she found intriguing, becoming fascinated by the order of such patterns and then the disorder when finely balanced reactions break down. Waller has explored the folklore figure Dulle Griet (Dull Gret) - drawing parallels between her research on Dulle Griet and her free radical learnings.

Anna Madeleine, amongst her other works, has revealed a close personal connection with art and science; creating 3D, spray painted “pixilated portraits” of her father (a climate scientist) and grandfather (a scientist and artist).

Hosted by the Griffin Gallery in West London, Ruth and Anna will travel to the UK to attend the opening.

For Australian audiences, there will be an opportunity to view the exhibition at MCLEMOI Gallery, Chippendale from November 28 to December 14.
