Of Nature, Nurture and Need by Glass workshop alumna, Kirstie Rea, is the current exhibition at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery's National Art Glass Gallery.

Kirstie says of the work:

With this body of work I return to what I love about living in Australia. Wherever we live there is the potential for a close connection to places outside of the city – rural places that sustain us and that only a few care for, tend and hopefully love. Daily operations in these places create sculptured surfaces that hold form with grace and strength. Seemingly aesthetic considerations made about the marks and lines created in the landscape become evolving, growing works of art. Spaces are transformed from a paddock to a linear textured surface of rolling form. Daily weather and seasonal change providing colour variations and light activating and energising spaces and surfaces. Agricultural implements no longer just the mark maker but integral to the rural narrative.

The outside calls me into it – the blue and warmth of a big sky day lies in waiting. Iconic structures such as the woodshed hold warmth as a reserve and possibilities for storing the blueness and what being outside offers.
