Opening night of “The Little Mermaid” exhibition in mid September was itself an elaborate performance involving diverse dramatis personae from around the world. The focus of attention was the collaborative work between Peter Greenaway, Istvan Horkay and Irma De Vries premiering in the ANU School of Art gallery. Participating in the opening were Peter Greenaway and Irma De Vries, skyping in from Amsterdam; the Director of Manning Clarke House, Dr Judith Crispin; the Hungarian Ambassador to Australia, Anna Sikó; Head of Photography and Media Arts, Dr Martyn Jolly and Istvan Horkay, the other artist in the collaborative trio who was present in the gallery. The occasion was filmed and reported by Duna TV in Hungary. In the remain days of the exhibition, these opening night events seemed to imbue the gallery with a spirit equal in the size and complexity of “The Little Mermaid” work itself.
