On Saturday August 25 at Parliament House Open Day the first ever Speaker’s University Challenge was contested between The Australian National University Debating Society and Melbourne University Debating Society. The challenge took the form of a parliamentary debate arguing the topic ‘The House is representative’. All eyes were on the trophy which was designed and hand-crafted at the School of Art.
“The design for the trophy 2013, reflects the colour of the Chamber of the House of Representatives. Its form, a facetted glass column, responds to the idea of showing the many sides of an argument, to achieve a successful debate,” said Head of Foundation Studies and Design Arts coordinator Gilbert Riedelbauch.
Melbourne University team took out the honours and are pictured here with the trophy.
