Three senior Indigenous artists will be visiting ANU School of Art this week to demonstrate the traditional art of punu - making wooden objects such as spears, boomerangs, music sticks and bowls.
Janet Inyika, Rene Kulitja and Mary Pan from the Mutitjulu Community in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park will hold three workshops in conjunction with Maruku Arts exploring sculpture, woodwork and Indigenous culture. They will discuss the history of punu in the Western Desert and share various Anangu methods of sculpting and embellishing wood and using hot wire etching techniques.
Participations will have the opportunity to create their own artwork in these practical workshops held on Friday 9 October from 11-12:30pm and 1-2:30pm, and Saturday 10 October from 9:10-11am.
