The ANU School of Art & Design welcomes Alex Martinis Roe as the new Head of Sculpture. Alex will be joining the School in January 2018 after relocating from Berlin, where she has been living since 2009.

Working across video, photography, installation, sculpture and projection, Alex explored themes of feminism, storytelling and the relationship between generations of people.  Since 2014 she has been tracing a particular genealogy of feminist political practices through the production of six film installations under the series title To Become Two (2014–17).

Head of School of Art & Design, Professor Dennis Ferris welcomes Alex: “The staff and students of our school look forward to welcoming Alex to the ANU community. Alex brings with her a wealth of experience and her innovative creative practice will no doubt inspire the students of the Sculpture disciple and across the School.”

In 2011 Alex completed her PhD at Monash University, titled ‘Collective Difference: Re-presentation as Feminist Practice’. She has exhibited her work in The Netherlands, UK, Germany, Italy and Australia. In March 2017 she was part of The National: New Australian Art a survey of the latest ideas and forms in contemporary Australian art held in Sydney.
