SOA College gives students a taste of the School of Art

Wednesday 15 April 2015

From 10 – 12 April 2015 the ANU School of Art was thrilled to host an excited group of young aspiring artists for SOA College, a unique program for students from ACT Colleges.

The program offered 30 year 11 and 12 students an extended introduction to the School of Art through tours and introductory sessions however the main focus was on the art. Each day, students joined lecturers from a range of disciplines at the School of Art to engage in crafting new works of art and the opportunity to try mediums they don’t have regular access to at their schools.

Classes included life drawing with John Forrester Clack, building challenges in the Furniture workshop with Simon Ramsey and Sean Booth, portrait painting with Emma Beer and other sessions in Ceramics, Gold & Silversmithing, Textiles, Sculpture, Glass and Printmedia and Drawing.

The opportunity was taken up eagerly by the students and enjoyed thoroughly by staff.

Special thanks to artsACT for support of this initiative and Outreach Coordinator Dr Waratah Lahy.
