Leah Bullen, PhD candidate from the ANU School of Art Painting Workshop, has been awarded one of three 2016 Start Your Studio Art & Design Scholarships from arts supply company Jasco.

In support of emerging artists in education, the scholarship awards recipients with $1,000 in art materials courtesy of Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris.

Leah's work looks at the relationship between painting and photography. She explores spaces that recreate natural worlds, such as aquariums, conservatories and terrariums, and the conceptual links between these sites and the act of representational painting. Earlier this year, she was awarded the Trustees' Watercolour Prize in the 2016 Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
