Textiles of Laos with Valerie Kirk

Head of ANU School of Art Textiles Workshop Valerie Kirk will be leading one of her renowned textiles tours of Southeast Asia in January 2017, this time focusing on regions of Laos.

This program will explore the strengths of Lao handloom and tribal heritage found in costume and decoration. It will take participants to meet local artisans as well as internationally acclaimed practitioners, take part in hands-on workshops, and to visit galleries, shops and village markets.

Highlights include visiting the World Heritage sites found at Luang Prabang, Vientiane and Pakse, witnessing Buddhist morning ceremonies, seeing traditional village textiles and exquisite Royal Court inspired silks, and viewing the famous 1,000 islands in southern Lao.
