Two-by-four showcases work by four emerging artists who took part in the inaugural Canberra Mentorship Program.

The Canberra Mentorship Program was established by Hannah Quinlivan with the aim of assisting new graduates from ANU School of Art transition into a sustainable art career. The program has paired up four Canberra-based practicing artists to help four emerging artists navigate life beyond art school.

The partnerships in 2015 saw Millan Pintos-Lopez paired with Peter Vandermark, Isobel Rayson work with Samantha Small, Ruby Berry partnered with Megan Jackson, and Kael Stasce mentored by Byrd.

Focusing on the practical elements of being an artist, the mentors assisted the graduates with access to studio space, planning for exhibitions, seeking commercial representation, avenues for promotion, applying for grants, competitions and awards, freighting and packing artworks, insurance and contracts, managing costs and taxation, sourcing materials and technical assistance, and pricing artworks.

While fostering intergenerational links within the Canberra arts community, outcomes for the artists included participation in international and interstate exhibitions, and establishing studio spaces and workshops with materials and equipment to maintain an ongoing art practice. The Canberra Mentorship Program has been supported by artsACT, Canberra Contemporary Art Space and The ANU School of Art.

Two-by-four is showing until October 17 in the ANU School of Art Foyer Gallery.
