Visiting Fellow Dr. Cheah Hwei-Fen curates Nyonya Needlework exhibition

ANU Centre for Art History and Art Theory Visiting Fellow Dr Cheah Hwei-Fen is the curator of the exhibition Nyonya Needlework: Embroidery and Beadwork in the Peranakan World, now showing at the Peranakan Museum in Singapore.

This exhibition explores the art of nyonya needlework, a vibrant part of Peranakan Chinese heritage. It features objects from major international collections, including curtains and hangings, purses, handkerchiefs, and slippers that were stitched by hand with tiny beads, silk, and gold and silver threads for special occasions and as gifts.

The exhibition will be on until late March 2017.
