Zoe Brand, a current 3rd year student in the Gold and Silversmtihing Workshop at ANU School of Art, was selected among a group of 17 artists from around the world for this exhibition at M.Contempory Gallery in Woollhara, Sydney.
The exhibition has attracted a great deal of media attention around Sydney. One article by Nicholas Forrest, on the International Art Website, Blouinartinfo.com states that Zoe Brands work titled 'A Failure to Communicate, More or Less', is "perhaps one of the most important in the exhibition".
"Zoe Brand explains “I see possibility in mundane, everyday throwaway statements. I collect, examine and remove them from conversation and build the text into signs,” Minimalist in style yet conceptually loaded, Brand’s wearable signs challenge the boundaries of both art and contemporary jewelry. Explaining the conceptual basis of her work, Brand says: “I wonder how a sign is read when the context of its placement changes from wall to body?” It is precisely because artists and jewelers are asking questions such as this that the wearable art scene, in Australia and internationally, is developing so rapidly and exploring such exciting territory.'
These pieces, which will be exhibited the 2014 School of Art Graduate Exhibition, are already being snapped up by art collectors around Australia. We are enormously proud of the continuing recognition and successes of Zoe Brand, who was a well known name within the Australian contemporary jewellery scene, long before she arrived at the ANU School of Art.
