Fukutoshi Ueno is one of Brisbane's emerging designers who brings traditional elements of Japanese culture to a contemporary Australian context. Ueno states that “The celebration of the natural world forms the core of my thinking, whether I am contemplating making furniture, public art, gardens, craftwork, or even in my cuisine”. His work has been exhibited throughout Australia, and in Tokyo, Seoul, London and other major international centres. He is particularly known for his signature piece, DRESS CODE, which is one of several collaborations with the fashion designer Akira Isogawa. The quartet of DRESS CODE pieces has recently been purchased for the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Australia.
