School Introduction

At the ANU School of Art & Design you'll study in the heart of the national capital, within Australia's leading research-intensive university and surrounded by its richest concentration of cultural institutions. Our programs are shaped by direct contact with expert practitioners working in exceptional studios, workshops and labs. From undergraduate study through to doctoral research, we blend rigorous scholarship with hands-on practice, span the digital and the material, and draw on deep partnerships with national galleries, museums and industry. GRAD SHOW 2025

Studies in visual art and design culminate in the annual GRAD SHOW, a tradition reaching back nearly fifty years that opens every studio, workshop and gallery in the School to the public. Thousands of visitors come through across opening night and the week that follows, many of the School's most significant graduate prizes are awarded, and for our graduates it's the first public outing of a body of work that will follow them into the world.

HDR Study

The School of Art and Design supports Higher Degrees by Research (MPhil and PhD) across Visual Arts, Design, and Art History and Curatorial Studies.Higher Degrees by Research offer students the opportunity to undertake detailed investigation on a substantial project amid a vibrant research community. With supervisory support, students are able to work within and beyond traditional methods researching visual art, design innovation, and art historical and curatorial scholarship.
