FORMFULL : FORMLESS brings together the work of six emerging artists spanning drawing, printmedia, sculpture and video. The exhibition is a testing ground for the artists’ varied experiments in form and space, abstraction and participation.
The works explore the active relationship between the viewer and the work by inviting physical contact, encouraging participation, or in the possibility of communication. Drawing on Henri Lefebvre’s ideas of the production of space as a relationship between the perceived, the conceived and lived spaces, these experiments can be understood as the oscillations between the object and its observer in space as a social and lived medium.
Presented in the high foot-traffic space of the ANU School of Art & Design Foyer Space, the exhibition invites the audience to consider the public space and the shared experiences that occur there. Ultimately, the works in FORMFULL : FORMLESS transform the viewer from passive observer to active participant.

FORMFULL : FORMLESS is the 5th Capital Arts Patrons' Organisation (CAPO) Emerging Artists' Prize Exhibition. The Emerging Artists' Prize has come into existence as a vehicle to further promote emerging artists from the Canberra district.
The recent changes at the ANU, combining Art History and Curatorship with the School of Art & Design have given CAPO the opportunity to highlight and reward outstanding Art History graduates through the annual ANU Emerging Artists' Support Scheme (EASS) awards. As a result, the CAPO Emerging Artists' Prize will achieve dual goals, providing art historians the opportunity to curate a professional exhibition, while showcasing the overflowing talent within the Canberra region in an exclusive exhibition.
This year, CAPO has presented the CAPO Curatorial Internship Award to Francis Kenna. He received the award to curate this exhibition at the 2018 ANU School of Art Graduation Exhibition. With CAPO's mentoring, Francis is assembling the Emerging Artists' Prize show.
For more information about CAPO and the support they provide for artists and curators, please see their website.
The ANU School of Art & Design is pleased to support the CAPO Emerging Artists' Prize Exhibition by providing the Foyer Space as a venue.
