"SPADICE brings artists, designers, and crafters together, collaborate, and make wonderful things happen. It integrates art, design, creativity, and craftsmanship, an exploration of the blurring of boundaries between art, craft and design."

Established in 2021, SPADICE is a new project concept initiated by its founder Tan Haur, an alumnus of the School, during the COVID-19 pandemic, whereby many art educators faced challenges in the physical classroom with teaching & learning, as well as brick-and-mortar spaces to showcase and share their artistic efforts.

The key idea of SPADICE is to provide courses and visual art workshops that enable the participants to have a feel of how their two-dimensional drawings can be transformed and realized in the form of a 3-D product. As for phase one of the SPADICE project (November 2021 - 31st March 2022), the team is working with the Rainbow Centre (Margaret Drive School), River Valley High School, and Anderson Serangoon Junior College as a start. This project will allos students to experience the full creative journey from learning to art creation to presentation.

Along the way, SPADICE will work with special guests, including musicians, artists with special needs, designers, crafters, and independent art creators, encompassing the complete journey, from curriculum design, teaching, learning, drawing, painting, pattern-designing, textile-printing, crafting to finished, three-dimensions products.

Tan Haur graduated from the School of Art & Design (Master of Visual Arts) major in photography and digital photo imaging (Distinction).  Since 2007, Tan spearheads a pioneer digital art community program supported by the Singapore Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA); he has then been actively involved in many of the regional digital art activities and research. Tan Haur was the Creative Project Consultant from 1987 to 2000, and has undertaken consultancy work for digital art and graphics-related projects worldwide.

His years as the Creative Project Consultant (Mattel and Lego) saw him supervising assignments covering photography, digital imaging, loyalty programs and direct mail programs (Kris Flyer), graphic design, exhibition and furniture design as well as corporate branding programs (Epson).  He has successfully merged his passion and talent together with his career in the art, digital photo imaging and creative industries and has proved not just to be a talented artist, but also a valuable member of the digital imaging art and design community.

Prior to committing himself as a full time graphic design consultant and artist, he worked as a chief curator and manager for epSITE Digital Imaging Academy & Gallery (Singapore) from 2000 to 2006.  The post allowed Tan Haur to pursue his interests as well as to create an awareness of digital art in the region.  As the founder of the "Digital Art for All" community art program, Tan is actively involved in organizing workshops and seminars to share his experiences with the public in the area of artistic concepts development and techniques on digital imaging and painting, photograph editing, restoring and archiving.

Tan was Academic Director of Raffles Design Institute, Singapore from 2008 to 2009.  He was the Digital Art Adviser and associate lecturer of: MINDS Schools, Singapore Visually Handicapped (SVH), National Library Board Digital Art Program in Singapore, ADAHK Hong Kong, National Day Parade'08 Singapore, Very Special Art Singapore.  Tan was artist in residence at Burgmann College, Australia in 2006-2007, NY Arts Beijing in DEC 2007 and Platform China in October 2010. He enjoys working on cross disciplinary projects like incorporate fine art and commercial design that challenge conventions and by breaking the norm, results in different alternative artistic lingo and presentation.

For International and ASEAN projects, the Pingyao International Photo Festival committee (Pingyao, China) has selected Tan Haur's recent series of photographic work "Live & Dream of the Little Red Dot", and this body of work was showcased in the September 2010 PIPF grand event. Right after the show, Tan participated in the artist-in-residency program in Beijing.

Tan also represented Singapore for the ASEAN COCI 'Art for All' 2008 in Thailand organized by the Thai secretariat of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information to promote effective cooperation in the fields of culture and information for the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding and solidarity among the peoples of ASEAN as well as in furthering regional development.
