Honorary Lecturer
Jewellery & Object
Qualification:
MFA (RMIT), BFA (Hons) (RMIT)Simon Cottrell has regularly exhibited his jewellery and objects both locally and internationally since 1997 after completing a BA of Fine Arts and Honours in Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT University in Melbourne, where he also completed of a Masters of Arts Research in 2010.
He has taught at RMIT and Monash University in Melbourne since 2002, and has been invited as a guest lecturer to art schools and events across Australia and in the USA, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Netherlands.
Using predominantly monel, a very hard nickel alloy, all of Cottrell’s works are deliberately monotone in colour and surface, while the highly decisive forms are peculiarly resonant in the diversity of the dynamics between shape, structure and detail.
