Enlighten Festival at Mt Stromlo Observatory, 2025. Projected artwork by Kalo Subakti

As part of Canberra’s Enlighten Festival, Mount Stromlo Observatory will become a luminous meeting point of art and astronomy. Enlighten Beyond at Mt Stromlo invites visitors to explore our connection to the cosmos through projections and immersive experiences set against the observatory’s historic buildings and night skies.

The event features large-scale projection works by students from the ANU School of Art & Design, whose creative responses animate the site with stories of discovery, deep time and future space imaginaries. Presented in collaboration with Mount Stromlo Observatory, these moving-image works highlight artistic approaches to science communication and public engagement.

Join us to wander the site after dark and encounter student artworks in situ in this unique opportunity combining stargazing with the Canberra Astronomical Society with education and contemporary art.
