Former ANU School of Art visiting artist and Painting lecturer Jude Rae has been announced as the winner of the 2016 Bulgari Art Award.

The Bulgari Art Award, now in its fifth year at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, is awarded to mid-career Australian painters. At a value of $80,000 it is one of Australia’s most expensive art awards, consisting of $50,000 for the acquisition of the winning work to the gallery collection, and a $30,000 residency in Italy. ANU School of Art alumnus Daniel Boyd won the award in 2014.

Rae is known for her still lifes, portraits and paintings of objects and interior spaces. Her winning work SL359 depicts a collection of fire extinguishers and gas cylinders. She has previously been a visiting artist and lecturer in the Painting workshop at ANU School of Art as well as a tenant and board member at ANCA, and in 2010 had a solo show at Canberra Museum and Gallery.
