ANU School of Art Painting alumna Elena Papanikolakis has been awarded the 2016 Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship.

Established in 2015 by the Breuer Foundation in collaboration with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the scholarship aims to support young female Australian artists. The prize consists of a three month residency at the Dr Denise Hickey Memorial Studio in Paris, and a $25,000 stipend.

Elena graduated from ANU School of Art with Honours in Painting in 2007. Her work uses collage, painting, photography and text to merge narratives, geographies and experiences associated with mass media, personal narratives and the natural environment. In Paris, she will engage with cultural narratives through the Louvre’s collection of Greek artefacts.

The award was judged by curator Isobel Parker Philip and art publisher Lou Klepac.
