Tree Planting Ceremony to Celebrate the Dye & Fibre Garden
We are delighted to invite you to a special tree planting event to celebrate the launch of the Dye & Fibre Garden, a collaborative project between the Landscape & Conservation Team and the School of Art & Design.
Date: Thursday, 21st November
Time: 11:30 AM
Location: Dye & Fibre Garden, located to the west of the School of Art & Design, between Baldessin and the carparks
The Dye & Fibre Garden is an exciting new space for staff and students, as well as those wishing to collaborate with us on plant related projects. This garden will serve as a hub for creative learning and research, where both native and non-native plants are cultivated for use in textile dyeing and fibre production. It will also support interdisciplinary work, for example, working with local clay and soil or designing water harvesting solutions.
In addition to its educational value, the garden aligns with the ANU Dhaagun Environmental Management Plan, focusing on key sustainability areas such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions (by creating our own art materials), water management, circular economy practices, and enhancing biodiversity and conservation efforts across campus.
As part of the event, we will be planting a walnut tree alongside other species selected for their use in dye and fibre production. We hope you can join us to celebrate this new space and its potential for future collaborations.
If you have any questions or would like further details, please feel free to contact Rebecca Mayo (rebecca.mayo@anu.edu.au) or Mick Kelly (michael.kelly@anu.edu.au)
We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting new initiative!
